In June 2012, HOPE worldwide Indonesia welcomed a group of volunteering students from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. They come to support in the numerous programs organized by HOPE.

For more than two weeks, the NTU students visited venues where HOPE held its events. From Cilincing, Tangerang to D2esa Cijayanti, Bogor, NTU students came to various places to help children and adults.

The NTU students started to help one of the villagers in Kampung Pisang, Tangerang, renovate his bathroom. During the week of June 13 – 20, they worked together with HOPE to build decent bathroom facilities that use3 a water pump for a more convenient water access. Ms. Lam felt lucky to be one of the villagers who were helped by the group of volunteers. She now feels her family can live a healthier life.

Bathrooms aside, NTU students also taught children who have been receiving English lessons from HOPE’s English Training Center (ETC) every week. For four consecutive days, June 18 – 21, they tried to get children interested in alphabets, numbers, colors, songs and English games. Not only did their vocabulary improve, the children came to love learning English.

The children were given a chance to embrace their artsy side when the NTU students taught them basic handicrafts and origami.

Despite the language barrier, the children and the NTU students could still manage to communicate and interact.
