You do not have to create something to be creative. Sometimes you just have to give some additional values on something to become more useful. This was exactly done by Anisah and Burhanuddin, both are SMK Amir Hamzah Medan’s teachers. Because of their creativities, they got award from Citi Success Fund program of HOPE Indonesia.

Anisah was inspired by her husband, a lighter seller. Anisah saw that those lighters can be more useful than just to light cigarettes or fire. Anisah teaches Social subject at the school, but with her creativity, she could turn the lighter as a laser pointer as well. It also can be used as a shock therapy for muscles relaxation, by giving electricity current.

The students were very interested in the creation of these lighters, so the school included it in the Entrepreneur subject. According to Anisah, the materials for this creation were not only easy to get, but the process of making itself did not ask much effort. The market is also promising because they are unique and can help people in the daily activities.

On the other hand, Burhanuddin had an interesting idea for Entrepreneur subject by teaching students how to get use of Oyster Mushrooms become a high quality food. Oyster mushrooms ares white or cream mushrooms with the head shaped like an oyster shell.

According to Burhanuddin, they do not only taste good, but also rich of vitamins and salts, with much calories and antioxidant that can prevent cancer. Furthermore, oyster mushrooms nowadays are not seen as a familiar food product. “That means business opportunity” said Burhanuddin.

With the theme “the Magic Mushroom”, Burhanuddin taught his students how to cultivate oyster mushrooms, how to pack and market them. This knowledge inevitably empower the students to process the mushrooms become a profitable food product.

The students of SMK Amir Hamzah Medan are really lucky to have creative teachers like Anisah and Burhanudin. Through their ideas of making Multifunction Lighter and Oyster Mushroom cultivation, they get a very exciting and valuable lesson, thus motivate and empower them to be entrepreneurs.
